HOME TOUR: Empty Nester Condo Transformation

Our clients, located in downtown Philadelphia, started their transition from suburban living to downtown living after becoming empty nesters. By repurposing many of their own personal belongings and using our design expertise we were able to bring a fresh, contemporary look for their new home.

From an overabundance of orange, we brought a variety of neutrals and pops of color to help balance tones in their living, dining and master bedroom through renovation, updating finishes, furniture, and styling.

Let’s take the tour shall we!

BEFORE - LIVING & DINING

To begin, here we have the before of our clients living room. With the floors matching the furniture, it was time for more variety, while keeping what we could as their pieces were of good quality.

AFTER - LIVING & DINING

We are so happy with how this project turned out for our clients, not only do they have a newly updated space, but the layout we created for them is much more purposeful. We provided a new floor plan to maximize space and TV viewing, so no heads ever need to be turned again!

Notice the leather chair that we repurposed? The warm leather brings in a beautiful contrast to the cooler toned rug and neutral sofa.

At MTI, we take pride in using our clients personal belongings anywhere we can so that your personality and story is shown throughout your home. We placed this beautiful existing sculpture on the side table pictured on the right, making it a stunning piece for all to see.

Flipping the orientation of the dining table gave us the opportunity to place a longer table for family and friends to gather around. We then opted for a glass table for a spacious and clean look which also assisted in enhancing the contemporary appearance.

BEFORE - MASTER BEDROOM

While we don’t have too many before photos of our clients master bedroom, it was in need of organization and decluttering. Again, we were able to use their existing nightstands which paired beautifully with our new selections.

AFTER - MASTER BEDROOM

To bring in more warmth into the space, we installed grasscloth wallpaper on the back wall to accent the artwork as well as the minimally designed light fixtures. Our color palette allowed for gorgeous contrast against the existing furniture, and our use of lots of texture made this master bedroom a cozy, curated retreat!
